Media coverage did not have the impact it should have....
This is a story, in French, about how France 2 television had broadcast in April a story about the very building that burned tragically last week with considerable loss of life. Why is it that the April report did not have an impact on authorities and others that might have led to actions to avert the tragedy? It is a failure of the process that should result from effective journalistic reporting. Such work should help the governance process. Why did this not happen here?

House of Representatives vote on CPB appropriations
This is from the home page of the WUNC website. Nice to see the news clearly presented here (but it was 87, not 86 Republicans voting for the amendment). It would help to add a date, something better than "Thursday".
If you are interested in who is in the North Carolina Congressional delegation, here it is.
And if you want to see how they voted, go here.
If you just want to know quickly, here is the list of those who OPPOSED the OBEY amendment:
Walter JONES, Jr
Virginia FOXX
Robin HAYES
Sue MYRICK
Patrick McHENRY
Charles TAYLOR
That means the amendment prevailed within the North Carolina Delegation (with a few listeners served by "North Carolina Public Radio") 7-6.
"The House Votes to Restore Funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
The full House Thursday afternoon approved an amendment offered by David Obey of Wisconsin to restore $100 million in funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The money had been cut by the Appropriations Committee earlier in the week. 196 Democrats voted for the bill, and they were joined by 86 Republicans and one Independent.
While this is encouraging news, the restoration of CPB funding addresses only part of the overall funding for public broadcasting that has been targeted for cuts in the fiscal year that begins in October. Programs still marked for reduction or elimination include funds traditionally set aside for capital improvements, and money that supports children's television production.
The Senate has not yet taken up the matter of CPB funding."

Blast kills anti-Syrian journalist in Beirut
This is a tragic development, and one would expect new leadership in Lebanon to focus on conducting a full criminal inquiry, with the alleged perpetrator or perpetrators tried before an impartial tribunal. Premature accusations do not contribute to this process.
